No one expects to get sick or have an accident when they’re travelling, but they do happen.

Why Travel Insurance is Important?

Medical Emergencies Abroad. One of the most critical reasons to have travel insurance is to cover medical emergencies that might occur while you’re away from home. Healthcare costs in some countries can be exorbitant, and without insurance, you might end up paying out of pocket. Travel insurance can cover hospital stays, doctor visits, and even emergency medical evacuations, ensuring that you receive the care you need without the financial burden.

Trip Cancellation or Interruption.  Life is unpredictable, and sometimes, circumstances beyond our control can force us to cancel or cut short a trip. Whether it’s due to illness, a family emergency, or unforeseen events like natural disasters, travel insurance can reimburse you for non-refundable expenses like flights, accommodations, and tours. This coverage can save you a significant amount of money and stress.

Lost or Delayed Luggage.  Imagine arriving at your destination, only to find that your luggage has been lost or delayed. This situation can be frustrating and inconvenient, especially if your essential items are in that suitcase. Travel insurance can help cover the cost of replacing necessary items, such as clothing and toiletries, while you wait for your luggage to be found or delivered.

Flight Delays or Cancellations.  Flight delays or cancellations can throw your entire travel plan into disarray. If you find yourself stranded due to a delayed flight, travel insurance can provide compensation for meals, accommodations, and transportation while you wait. Additionally, if a cancellation forces you to book a new flight, your insurance may cover the cost difference.

24/7 Assistance.  Many travel insurance policies offer 24/7 assistance services, which can be invaluable when you’re in a foreign country and need help navigating a crisis. Whether you need help finding medical care, arranging emergency travel, or getting in touch with your family back home, having access to round-the-clock support can provide peace of mind.

Travel insurance is an essential component of any trip. It offers a safety net that protects you from the financial implications of unexpected events, allowing you to focus on enjoying your travels. Before you embark on your next adventure, take the time to research and invest in a comprehensive travel insurance policy that meets your needs. Remember, it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

If you’re heading to a tropical beach, cross-border shopping or visiting family or friends in another province or country—your full provincial healthcare plan won’t go with you. That means, if you experience a medical emergency away from home, you’ll be left to arrange for care and shoulder all your expenses.
